Dear Sara, A very appealing picture from your studio that makes me curious. So far, I have read the rainbow the other way around: how it disappears into the wall, so that I have to imagine it completely. So it all depends on the perspective that alternates between becoming and passing away in his works... Best regards, Matthias

Dear Matthias, Yes, I really appreciate Kiesler's work! I was surprised by the density of the exhibition. I was particularly pleased to see the work "Arch as a Rainbow of Shells" in the original for the first time. So far, I only knew them from black and white pictures. It is wonderful to see how the individual elements seem to grow out of the wall and then gradually connect to the room until the standing elements meet them, support them and create an archway. Here is the first photo of the waxing in the studio, I thought it would make sense to begin in limbo... Best regards, Sara

Dear Sara, In the meantime, you have completed the impressive sculpture for Kiesler's "Earth's Finger". We watched the exhibition "Us, You, Me" at the Kunsthaus together. How did you receive the exhibition? Were you surprised by Kiesler, whose sculptural works you have appreciated for a long time? Would you like to create another work for the exhibition "Kiesler heute"? Is there anything to see from the studio yet? Best regards, Matthias

Dear Matthias,

The materiality of the Kiesler sculpture fascinates me, as does the principle of stacking horizontal and vertical elements. The horizontal elements are reminiscent of a triangle and are arranged in a slight rotation, thus creating a connection to the spiral shape. They are cast in tombac, a copper lamination that has a higher copper content and a lower zinc content compared to the bronze of the other movement elements. On the one hand, the upper horizontal element is reminiscent of a tabletop, on the other hand it is reminiscent of a landscape model... The strong haptic presence and the design language give it a strong body reference. The body as landscape is a fundamental theme of my work that has accompanied me for many years. As discussed at our meeting, I am happy to do my own work on this for the Kiesler exhibition.

Best regards, Sara

Dear Sara, Yes, it was very nice. Thanks for the pictures! You can get the plans from Fabienne Loosli. I have one more request: I found your comment on the Kiesler plant in the depot enlightening. Can you give me some keywords about this? Also in terms of the different materials, the structure of the work, the reference to the body. Best regards, Matthias

Dear Matthias, Thank you very much for the beautiful and inspiring meeting. It was good and important to see the sculpture in real life. I'm really looking forward to the Kiesler exhibition, especially the bow! I am very pleased to be part of the "Kiesler Today" exhibition. I still think it's a very good idea to develop an installation for the first small vault room. Is there an architectural plan with the measurements? Then I could build a model to take the idea further. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Sara

Dear Sara, Here is some Kiesler information, although the end date for Kiesler is still provisional today. Eliasson and Zobernig, both Kiesler Prize winners, are already enthusiastically involved. Tomorrow I'll meet Roman Signer. I'm looking forward to meeting you next week. Best, Matthias

Friedrich Kiesler's exhibition was impressive. This artist is extremely versatile and ahead of his time with some works. You can tell from his works how well connected the artist was.
