Parallel to Jan Jedlička’s exhibition, Kunsthaus Zug is showing representative groups of works by Max von Moos, Florin Granwehr, and Brigitte Moser – generous donations that are being shown for the first time.

Max von Moos (1903-1979) lived and worked in Lucerne and is one of the most important Surrealists in Switzerland. He occupies a central position in the collection of Kunsthaus Zug in the field of Swiss Surrealism and Fantastic Realism. With the donation of 15 paintings and 124 works on paper from the Peter Thali Collection, Lucerne, Kunsthaus Zug will now house a Max von Moos centre.

In his sculptures and drawings, the Zurich-based artist Florin Granwehr (1942-2019) played with space and our perception of it. He was concerned with questions of order, growth, sequence and movement. His mathematically constructed entities seem to develop, grow and turn freely around a centre either constructed or imaginary until they topple over in our perception of them. The exhibition shows several earlier works acquired with funding from the KUMA Foundation, as well as donations from the Granwehr estate.

The jewellery artist Brigitte Moser (*1945) is an important member of the cultural scene in the canton of Zug and is known well beyond the borders of Switzerland. She creates objects that break with common notions of what jewellery is. The exhibition showcases a representative group of works that she has donated to Kunsthaus Zug. They are works of art made of diverse materials such as precious metals, stones, rubber, hair and bone. Moser is inspired by the often unconventional materials that she works with. At the same time, these objects bear testimony to her long-honed craftmanship.
