Kyra Tabea Balderer, Raphael Egil
Chamber, Chamber
“Chamber, Chamber” – this double title opens up a whole realm of possible interpretations: A chamber, a cabinet, a pictorial space, a stage, a hall of mirrors or a place of echoes. At the same time, it suggests something intimate, something staged, or a repeated entering of spaces in which images overlap, transform and unfold themselves anew.
The artists Kyra Tabea Balderer and Raphael Egil come together in this tension field. Balderer works across different media, though her focus is on photography. She creates her works through acts of restaging, through the interplay of what is strange and what is familiar, and through shifts in known perspectives. Similarly, Egil’s paintings take up traditions from art history, probing the renewed possibilities of the medium. These two artists are united by their precise feeling for varying motifs, for repetitions and transformations, and by their delight in playing with references from art history and contemporary pictorial strategies. These are all aspects that they are continuing to develop and restage in dialogue with the collection of the Kunsthaus Zug.
“Chamber, Chamber” thus invites you to wander through the pictorial spaces of two independent artistic stances. The dialogue that takes place between their works creates a “chamber drama” of images that raises questions about originality and variation, silence and staging, memory and the future.
