Günter Brus

Werkumkreisung

@Kunsthaus Zug

Günter Brus (born 1938) is one of the main representatives of ‹Viennese Actionism›. In the 1960s, with performances that bordered on self-destruction, he was concerned with a radical work on the human body, which can also be understood as an extended form of drawing and painting. The period of scandalous appearances was followed by an intensive preoccupation with drawing and text. In the pictorial poems, too, Brus appeared aggressively and subversively against bigotry and repression, only to then immerse himself in a fairytale-like and fantastic universe. The retrospective, conceived and organized by the Albertina, Vienna, includes paintings, works on paper, books, photos, documents, and films from public and private collections since the 1950s. The large exhibition is complemented by works from the Kunsthaus collection by Gerstl, Kubin, Kokoschka, Schiele and Wotruba.
