Annelies Štrba
New videos. New Pictures
From April 1 to May 27, Annelies Strba is showing new video works in a major exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zug. This will also be shown in Geneva in the summer (Centre pour l'image contemporaine in St. Gervais, 29 August to 14 October).
The photographer was born in Zug in 1947 and has lived in the city since she was four years old. Canton of Zurich, first in Horgen and since 1968 in Richterswil.
Since the 90s, she has been one of the most important artists in our country. She has become known for her large-scale photographs of her family - a kind of photographic diary of a mother, and yet much more than that. (Kurzmeyer)
Since 1999, videos have been created for the first time. Strba has discovered the medium for himself and is working intensively with it. A new phase of work has begun, which the exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zug - its largest show to date - presents comprehensively for the first time. Fascinating films from New York, Paris, Berlin and Zurich will be shown. The anonymous and cold urban physiognomies are circled and scanned from a distance. This is contradicted by the stretched slowness of the films. Everything seems flatteringly enraptured, bathed in abysmal fluorescent light or seductively colorful. The archaic nature of Zurich's infernal street parade is combined with the parade scenes of Central Swiss customs, to which another film is dedicated. In Venice, a work was created with the daughter Sonja and a video work is dedicated to the family. The show is complemented by a group of new photographs. The large exhibition enables the immersion in a highly atmospheric world, external views and inward turns alternate, the urban and the familiar private correlate.
